AMI Primary Diploma Course 2021-2022

Course Brochure

The Primary (2.5 – 6) Diploma course covers the application of the Montessori educational method for children from 2.5 to 6 years of age. The aims of the course are to foster a complete awareness and deep understanding of Dr. Maria Montessori’s legacy and to develop professional skills through the knowledge of Montessori materials and the implementation in the Children’s House (Casa dei Bambini).
 

Course Units

The course is a comprehensive study of the Montessori method and the child development, including:

Psychology, child development and philosophy of the Montessori approach

The exercises of Practical Life and the child's acquisition of fundamental learning skills

Sensorial development

Development of Movement and Language (Spoken and Written Language)

Mathematics

Geography, History, Art, Biology and Music

Supervised Practice with the Montessori  materials under guidance of qualified staff

Observation in Montessori classes

Practice Teaching in Montessori classes

Material making

Preparation of albums containing illustrated notes of didactic materials

Montessori Environment at USSH, VNUHCM 


Requirements for AMI Certification

1. At least 90% attendance

2. Minimum 140 hours of supervised practice with Montessori materials

3. Submission of acceptable and original albums in all areas

4. Submission of acceptable materials as required by the course

5. Accumulation of the required observation and teaching practicum hours and submission of the corresponding reports

6. Successful completion of written and oral examinations

 

Course schedule:

The three block format course:

  • Block 1: March 22 - May 20, 2021 (8 weeks)
  • Block 2: June 14 – August 27, 2021 (10 weeks)
  • Block 3: November 1, 2021 – January 1, 2022 (10 weeks)
  • Between block sessions: Observation and Teaching Practice.

Timings:

Block 1:

8:30 am – 5:00 pm (a 60-minute break from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm),  Monday – Friday

9:00 am – 4:00 pm (a 60-minute break from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm), Saturday (two Saturdays per month)

Block 2 & 3:

9:00 am – 5:00 pm (a 60-minute break from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm), Monday – Friday

9:00 am – 4:00 pm (a 60-minute break from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm), Saturday (two Saturdays per month)

University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City

No. 10 – 12, Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.

Language

English with Vietnamese translation.

The students write their album in either languages.

 

Director of Training

Ms. Diwo Lhamo Pemba

Born in Bhutan, Ms. Pemba has studied in India, England and the United States. After obtaining a teaching certificate from Mount Hermon Teacher’s Training College she went on to receive her AMI Primary Diploma at the Maria Montessori Training Organization in London.

She has been working in the USA since 2004 in many roles including teacher, consultant and trainer. In 2007 she received her A to I Diploma in Denver. She is presently a full AMI Primary Trainer and has conducted Courses in the USA, India, Vietnam, Egypt, and Mongolia.  Most recently, Ms. Pemba has directed the first AMI Primary Training Courses in Viet Nam in 2019 - 2020.

Course Fees

176.000.000 VND (included one year AMI Membership fee).

Payment can be done in three instalments:

1st instalment: 88.500.000 VND

Due: By March 18, 2021

2nd instalment: 52.500.000đ

Due: May 10 to May 17, 2021

3rd instalment: 35.000.000đ

Due: October 4 to October 11, 2021

Discount 1.000.000 VND for each person who took AMI Primary Assistant/Orientation Courses at USSH, VNUHCM.

Discount 1.000.000 VND for each teacher/staff of the schools which offered observation, teaching practice venue to the students of the 1st AMI Primary Diploma Course in Viet Nam.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents to apply for the course:

3. A copy of passport or ID card

4. A copy of the highest certificate of education qualification

5. Copies of Montessori certificates (if any)

6. Copies of English certificates (if any)

7. Application fee: 300.000 VND
